Abstract: The guide is aimed at a wide circle of participants in higher education who are required to produce various types of written works during their studies at various levels. The guide is aimed at both students and teachers, and contains practical information on the fundamentals of research, writing and design of written works, the use of scientific apparatus and other principles important in higher education. In order to ensure the quality of written works, in addition to guiding students through the process of creating written works, we also strive to raise awareness of their importance in higher education since they are a valuable contribution of knowledge to the higher education activity and a reflection of the quality of work of each higher education institution. Written works in higher education include short written works, seminar papers, project works, diploma and final works, Master theses and doctoral dissertations, as well as professional and scientific papers. The guide is divided into ten chapters. The first chapter begins with an introduction as do usually all written works in higher education. The second chapter describes general characteristics of various types of written works. It is followed by Chapter 3 focused on the structure of written works, and Chapter 4 focused on their design and technical characteristics. Chapter 5 offers detailed instructions for a proper use of scientific apparatus based on the style of citing and documenting literature and sources of the American Psychological Association - APA. Chapter 6 is aimed at raising awareness of and encouraging the respect for copyright, and it highlights the issue of plagiarism. Chapter 7 deals with grammar and language expression. Chapter 8 describes the basic concepts of research methodology and research process, while Chapter 9 discusses the mentor-student relationship and the general principles of mentoring. In addition to the principles of proper writing, public presentation of written works is also important. Therefore, the last chapter offers guidelines for the preparation and implementation of an oral presentation.
