Guided tour of Celje
Short description of Celje guided tour:
Originally "Keleia", a Celtic settlement where Noricum coins were minted, in the period of Emperor Claudius it developed as "Celeia" into the most important Roman borough and a most important economic and military center. Today Celje is a city with a lively cultural and tourist beat, a highly developed social life, a commercial, trade and fair center, and attractive surroundings. Before making our first step, we will rise our heads to see the old Celje castle, seat of the Counts of Celje, first time mentioned in 1322. The legend has it that there are still many children of the counts in Teharje village. In the old city center we will stop on Krek square to meet one of the first female travelers Alma Karlin and Celje hall former German house in tipical German Gothic. What is a city without a church? On the Main square there is one from 13th century, next to it there is the only preserved poorhouse in Slovenia which hides many intimate stories. Behind the corner the water tower shows the lever of water during flood in 1672 but it is acctually a tower of medieval town walls. When reaching the Old county hall and Regional museum we will enjoy a short break: to have a romantic stroll on the banks of Savinja river, to visit Celje library or enjoy a chat with new friends. Passing by wall of scorn we will arrive in front of National hall, and Celje town hall. Do you know what "The old pot" means? Belive me, it has a completely different meaning here. Returning back to the Faculty we will pass by many palaces of former town nobilities or merchants, like Loan society palace and Metropol cinema, where maybe you can spend your evening in Celje.
