Since its beginnings, the International School for Social and Business Studies (ISSBS) has in addition to educational and other activities focused on the intensive development of research. Research is one of the main faculty's activities, based on the activities and achievements of its researchers, higher education teachers and associates. The key task of the faculty's research group is to comply with the highest standards of research excellence in the fields of social and business sciences.

On 16 April 2008, the Slovenian Research Agency on the basis of Article 23 and in accordance with Article 14 of the Rules Amending the Rules on the Contents of and Method for Keeping Registers of Research and Development Institutions (Official Gazette of the RS, no. 122/2006) registered (as number 2711) the ISSBS in the register of research institutions and organisations.

The ISSBS has a registered Research Group for Social and Business Studies (registration no. 2711-001) which consists of renowned experts in the fields of:

• economics and business studies,
• administrative and organisational sciences, and management,
• education,
• computer science and informatics,
• law, etc.

The ISSBS's research group carries out activities in accordance with the faculty's research and development vision for the period 2008-2013, outlining the following main goals:

• participation of the research group and its researchers in scientific research and development projects in the Republic of Slovenia, EU and worldwide,
• scientific research development of the research group's members and recruitment of new members,
• compliance with high standards of scientific research excellence in all activities of the research group and its members,
• cooperation with other research organisations and groups in Slovenia, the EU and worldwide.

The research group aims to achieve its goals through the following activities:

• implementation of scientific research projects obtained through public tenders in the Republic of Slovenia and EU (applied research projects, target research programmes, ESF, etc.), independently or in cooperation with other research organisations and groups,
• implementation of other scientific research projects in the Republic of Slovenia, EU and worldwide, independently or in cooperation with other research organisations and groups,
• inclusion of students in research activities,
• spreading the knowledge and contemporary findings in the fields of social and business sciences in the Republic of Slovenia, EU and worldwide,
• spreading the knowledge through publishing new scientific research findings in relevant journals and monographic publications in the Republic of Slovenia, EU and worldwide.

Through the implementation of the above activities, the research group is establishing solid foundations for further implementation of the ISSBS's research and development vision.
