Brankica Assenmacher, M.A.
FIBAA Project Manager of the Accreditation Process
"FIBAA is a Swiss non-profit
accreditation organization, located in Bonn, Germany, that focuses on special
study programmes from the fields of business and social studies, economics and
law. International School for Social and Business Studies (ISSBS) obtained
accreditation for the postgraduate study programme Knowledge Management.

A very positive point of the peer
review was that ISSBS has close contacts with the regional economy which enable
students to get more applied education in order to better address the labour
market needs and, therefore, hopefully get better jobs. It has been also
noticed that ISSBS puts a lot of emphasis on applied business experience of the
teaching staff.
There is a good basis for
international direction of the programme which needs to improve in the future.
There are many possibilities for improvement although the national legislation
somewhat discourages the implementation of the programme in English. It would
be desirable to attract more international students to get a real international
community.
Another strongpoint is the
integration of theoretical and practical content and a mix of examination
methods. Examination is done accordingly to the didactical and educational
process and includes diverse assessment methods which are not commonly used in
the region. Practical projects and case studies are also included in the
didactical process, which encourages the applied programme profile. The
didactical concept also enables students to develop "soft skills".
Furthermore, the peers appreciate
regular monitoring of the student workload as well as the fact that the outcomes
of student evaluations provide input for the quality enhancement process. In
that way, ISSBS ensures the manageability and also the quality of the study
programme. However, it has to be emphasized that the study programme is manageable
in the regular period of study (2 years) for employed students only to a lesser
extent.
The overall point is that the panel
team noticed a very positive atmosphere, openness of the staff and the will to
improve the quality of the programme and the school as a whole as well. We have
noticed a positive attitude of students towards the School. It was very nice to
hear that they experience a high level of teaching staff support. It was a pleasure for me to coordinate this
accreditation procedure."
