INNOVATION AND EMPLOYABILITY – THE UNIVERSITIES CHALLENGE

Celje, 21 March 2011

About EMUNI ReSouk

EMUNI Research Souk* is a multi-conference, implemented simultaneously at EMUNI members in different countries of the Euro-Mediterranean region. It is a student research conference which encourages participants to present their contributions and projects on the priorities of the Union for the Mediterranean and specifically the current topic of the conference. As a member of the international EMUNI network, the ISSBS is a co-organiser of this event every year.

* Souk is an Arabic word for a market or bazaar.

Topic 2011: Innovation and Employability - The Universities Challenge

Innovation is a driving force of economic growth and an efficient vehicle towards modernization and the enhanced competitiveness in the global market. European countries and their neighbours are aware of the importance of innovation which is one of the priorities of the Euro-Mediterranean Partnership and the European Neighbourhood Policy (ENP). Employability, on the other hand, is the ability to move self-sufficiently within the labour market to realize one’s potential through sustainable employment. Employability of individuals depends on the knowledge, skills and abilities they possess, the way they use those assets and present them to employers, and the context within which they seek work. Innovation should be the output of all universities’ work and employability the final goal driving their efforts. The challenges of universities are to:

- unlock the talents of students;

- promote shared values;

- extend opportunities to an increasingly wide range of people;

- drive local and national economic growth;

- provide a highly skilled workforce;

- create innovative world beating products and services;

- create jobs; and

- support communities.

A challenge leading universities toward “innovation and employability”.
