International School for Social and Business Studies (ISSBS) is an independent higher education institution, which was founded in 2006 in Celje, the third biggest and most rapidly developing Slovenian city, which applied for the European capital of culture 2012. Teaching is problem based, proactive methods are used, students are encouraged to think critically and solve problems in a creative way. ISSBS actively participates in research, counselling and lifelong learning, within which students get a certificate with ECTS credits for completed activities. ISSBS demonstrates its international orientation in the following ways: study programmes are designed in accordance with the Bologna declaration, with ECTS credits gained.

  • Students are awarded the Diploma Supplement,
  • foreign languages are a part of the study programmes,
  • at least 25 % of elective courses,
  • foreign professors participate in the development of study programmes and teaching,
  • at least 20 % of courses are in English,
  • introduction of e-education,
  • student and teacher exchange is facilitated and supported,
  • professors from practise participate in the development of study programmes and teaching.

The Faculty plans to organise international summer school, conferences, to participate in international projects and to become a member of various international associations. This will promote the development of good practices in education and ensure their transfer from one country to another.

ISSBS aims at encouraging Erasmus activities and is promoting Erasmus University Charter through:

  • international student exchange office,
  • supporting Slovenian student and teacher mobility,
  • signing contracts with foreign Faculties,
  • publications, through which foreign students and teachers are invited to the ISSBS,
  • information about international mobility on the web page,

The conclusion is that we are promoting the process of quality lifelong learning and are encouraging students and staff to participate in it by international exchange of knowledge, professional skills and implementation of all above into their professional life. The Faculty is promoting gender equal opportunities for races and all ethnical minorities. ISBSS is going to try to provide special facilities for students/teachers with visual/hearing/physical disabilities and has already ensured access for the students with phisycal disabilities.

On International School for Social and Business Studies (ISSBS) quality assurance regarding mobility is supervised by the Senate's Commission and an Erasmus coordinator. The coordinator is in charge of the promotion of Erasmus programmes, is signing contracts with partner institutions, ensuring the recognition of Erasmus study periods abroad, organising specialised language courses, overseing outgoing students, providing information and counselling of incoming students, the analysis of evaluation questionnaires for incoming and outgoing participants in international mobility programmes, etc. Information about the curricula and the credit system for assessment of knowledge within different modules for our programmes is available on our institution's web site. ISSBS has the Commission for quality and evaluations, which monitors and assesses quality in all areas, particularly with regard to the study effectiveness and success. The Commission also decides on the indicators and standards, which are comparable with the national quality criteria and ENQA recommendations. One of the tasks of the Commission is to make annual assessments of the frequency of international exchanges, areas and types of exchanges and student and staff satisfaction regarding international mobility, which is written in the annual report, where the Commission's future proposals are also written down. Quality reports are dealt with by the organs of ISSBS and are publicly accessible. ISSBS emphasises the importance of quality assurance, particularly teacher competences in the field of their disciplines, as well as teaching excellence. Therefore professors and professional staff are encouraged to strive for both personal and professional development. They are encouraged to participate in seminars, conferences, both in Slovenia and abroad, where their research can be presented, their knowledge upgraded and international cooperation established.

Each student who is going to come on placement is going to have two mentors, one in the Faculty and one in the company. Mentors are firstly going to prepare a working plan for each student and afterwards they are going to supervise and lead the students to reach the working purpose of their placement. During their stay in companies the Faculty mentor is going to visit the students in the company. At the end of the placement students are going to give a written report on skills and knowledge they have obtained and also mentors are going to write reports on their findings and suggestions regarding placements. We are in a process of establishing a net of enterprices, schools, institutions, properties, which are going to asuure the quality impementation of practical educationa for foreign students.
